New rules adopted by the Mississippi State Board of Architecture (MSBOA) in 2018 took effect on March 11, 2019. The following rules have been amended/added (with significant changes noted):
- Rule 3.1 (Records of the Board) - Added a paragraph making e-mail addresses of registrants confidential.
- Rule 3.2 (Practice Procedures) - Made changes to rule commentary, clarified that use of the title "Intern Architect" is allowed if certain criteria are met, and defined the term "building" in the context of exemptions from the architect registration act.
- Rule 4.1 (Competence) - Made changes to rule commentary.
- Rule 4.2 (Conflict of Interest) - Made changes to rule commentary.
- Rule 4.3 (Compliance with Laws) - Deleted language regarding violations of state or federal criminal law that is not consistent with the statute and made changes to the rule commentary.
- Rule 4.4 (Full Disclosure) - Made changes to rule commentary and added a rule to clarify that architects in charge of a firm's architectural practice shall be deemed to have violated the rules if the firm has violated the rules.
- Rule 4.5 (Professional Conduct) - Deleted references to a "resident" architect in each office; allows architects to provide services on a contingency basis if they can commit resources sufficient to meet the standard of care and performance required under any other commission; made changes to rule commentary.
- Rule 5.1 - Clarified and reorganized the disciplinary guidelines.
- Added Chapter 7 to establish a code of conduct for Board members.
